Another Leader Joins the GSS Team
At Green Site Services (GSS), our strength lies in the depth of our team’s expertise and their commitment to the collaborative culture we’ve built. This month, we’re excited to introduce our new Project Manager, Phillip Mayo, who brings two decades of hands-on Environmental Services experience.
Phil’s journey in the Environmental Services industry began in 2005. Prompted by a friend to join United Oil Recovery as a Field Technician, Phil found a natural aptitude for the work. Now, he joins GSS, bringing with him a comprehensive understanding of the industry.
Why Green Site Services?
In an industry seeing rapid consolidation, Phil was drawn to the intentional, collaborative atmosphere at GSS.
“What resonates with me about Green Site is the small and focused group,” Phil says. “You see the owners day-to-day and can get instant feedback on any situation.”
GSS offers more than just access to leadership; it provides a deep well of collective expertise. Phil joins a team of veteran Project Managers and seasoned Supervisors and Field Techs whose combined experience defines the company and breeds collaboration. He’s eager to help develop our field service team and take on the unique challenges of each project.
The Foundation of Successful Projects: Communication
If there is one thing years in the field teaches you, it’s that technical skill is only half the story. For Phil, the most critical lesson drawn from his experience is the power of clear communication.
“Without communication, things will fall apart fast and can make even the smallest project very difficult,” Phil explains. “When leading a project, I make sure everyone is on the same page—from the guys on the ground to the personnel in the office. When the goals and objectives are clearly laid out, confusion can’t sabotage the team.”
Problem Solving in the Field
Environmental Services often require quick thinking and creative engineering under pressure. Phil recently mentioned a significant challenge involving an active leak on a 120-foot diameter asphalt tank.
The tank was leaking at a steady rate, threatening to create a massive recovery issue. Phil’s team utilized a truckload of sand to build a controlled retention pond, maintaining the product at a specific depth to allow it to cool without adhering to the ground. This tactical approach allowed the team to recover the material by hand and drum it safely, saving the client from a costly remediation and preventing a much larger environmental incident.
Life Outside the Job Site
When he isn’t managing complex projects or coordinating with the field team, Phil’s hands are full at home. He and his wife stay busy with their three children (two boys and a girl), ten chickens, a French bulldog, and three cats.
In a rare quiet moment, you’ll likely find Phil outdoors or in the garage working on classic cars.
We are thrilled to add Phil’s leadership and experience to the team. Please join us in welcoming him to Green Site Services!
